Project Information Website
Welcome to the Project Information Website for the Detail Design and Environmental Assessment Study for the rehabilitation of Highway 148 at Greenwood Road to the Québec Border in the Township of Laurentian Valley. The project has been carried out following the requirements of the MTO Class EA as a Group 'B' project. Group 'B' projects include major improvements to existing transportation facilities, including improvements that increase traffic capacity or cause a significant widening of the footprint beyond the existing highway and new or modified water crossings.
The website was developed as a method to provide public consultation with those parties or groups with an interest in the project.
Highway 148 was established in 1983 when Highway 62/Highway 17 was renumbered as part of the highway system. Highway 148 is a two-lane provincial highway that connects the Township of Laurentian Valley with the Ontario-Québec provincial border. The project generally includes pavement rehabilitation; 2.5 m paved shoulders along the highway; new right-turn lane at Hazley Bay Drive; drainage improvements; and removal of the existing CPR overhead structure and replacement with a culvert.
The study area extends for 1.8 km from east of the Greenwood Road intersection to the Québec border. In order to facilitate the replacement of the CPR Bridge, a short-term closure at the CPR Bridge on Highway 148 between Hazley Bay Drive and Greenwood Road will be implemented. During this time traffic will be detoured along Hazley Bay Drive, Forest Park Road, Beachburg Road and Greenwood Road.
Environmental Assessment Process
Upon the completion of this study, a Design and Construction Report (DCR) will be prepared and made available for a 30-day public review period. A Notification of Submission will be published in the local newspapers.
A PowerPoint Presentation outlining the detail design can be found below. Those stakeholders who would like to provide comments on the design can do so from April 16, 2018 to May 3, 2018.
Notice of Design and Construction Report Submission
The Design and Construction Report will be posted for 30-day public review from August 30, 2018 to October 1, 2018. For more information, please refer to the following Notice of Design and Construction Report Submission.
